About the Book

At age thirty-eight, instead of socializing with Baltimore’s A-list, Lenora Stone photographs them for Baltimore Scene, a glossy magazine filled with beautiful people who, unlike Lenora, never have to worry about car trouble and overdue bills. Lately even things with her boyfriend Gerald haven’t been right. They’ve been together for three years but he can’t seem to ask the one question she’s been waiting to hear.

Then just when she thinks things can’t get worse, Lenora wins the jackpot in the Maryland lottery. In a heartbeat, all her dreams become possible. She quits her job and indulges her every desire—starting with a shiny, silver BMW and a million-dollar mansion. Gerald is finally ready to put a ring on her finger, and the city’s most exclusive women’s group is dying for her to join.

Yet as her life starts to come together, the things Lenora holds dear begin to fall apart. Has her world really changed for the better, or does fortune come with a heavy price?

LIVING IN THE PINK By Sharon Tubbs

Living in the Pink – About the Author

SHARON TUBBS is a Christian who loves to write. She has worked professionally as a journalist since 1995 and has reported and written about various news topics, from local government issues to race relations to national religious events. Currently, she is a community news editor for a major newspaper in Florida.

Her passion is writing about God’s love and His vision for believers. She confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1995, shortly after graduating from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and moving away from her home state to jumpstart a journalism career in suburban New Jersey. Hundreds of miles away from the security of home, she realized that God was the source of true peace, contentment, and most importantly eternal life. Since moving to Florida in 1996, she has used church leadership activities and other venues to encourage women in the Tampa Bay area to write poetry, devotionals, and books with Christian themes. She has also sponsored a “small group” home Bible study affiliated with Grace Family Church in Lutz, Florida, where she has been a member since January 2008. She feels blessed to learn from other women, while helping to facilitate their growth, as well.

The Living in the Pink project originated when Sharon wrote a version of the first story, Revelation, for a writing contest. She didn’t plan to create a series at the time. In fact, that story stayed tucked away in the annals of her computer for years before she looked at it again. The second go-round, she saw potential for something more and began to develop the central character “Sister Pinky,” using humor and real-life situations to touch others in a down-to-earth way. In 2009, the project was launched online at LivingInThePink.com as a monthly short story series and newsletter with themes inspired by struggles that many women face.

In the spring of 2010, Sharon finalized a deal with Moody Publishers to expand the Living in the Pink project. That same year, she also contracted with See Media, a Christian company that publishes 30-day devotionals for woman. Both the Living in the Pink project and Sharon’s devotional for See Media are scheduled for release in April 2011.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Living in the Pink is a series of humorous and insightful short stories with Christian underpinnings. Through the eyes of the wise “Sister Pinky” and Believers Ministries International Church, these stories highlight issues that women grapple with but that often remain unspoken in religious circles. The characters are everyday wives, mothers, and singles. They develop and gain a spiritual perspective in dealing with romantic relationships, wayward children, jealousy, church traditions, Christian hypocrisy, and self-righteous judgment, among other themes.

Discussion questions help readers connect with the storylines and urge them to look within—and up—to reach their highest potential in life.

Book Review:

Sharon Tubbs shares insightful short stories about the lives of people who have chosen to live their life in the pink. They are everyday individuals that have gotten crossed between hot and cold, red and white – they have decided to live in the pink. Living in the Pink merely means that the characters in this book have not totally committed their lives to Christ, but have continued to live a lukewarm lifestyle. However, when Sister “Pinky,” as she so affectionately is called, steps into their lives and shares some godly wisdom to get them back on track.

Sister Pinky shares godly wisdom with a young woman about the importance of valuing her worth and not allowing someone in your life that isn’t ready to commit to God or to you. Sister Pinky goes around each person’s life to show them a better way of living and handling their life’s dilemmas.

Sharon Tubbs does an excellent job of sharing some powerful fiction stories that seem so real to life. She will have you turning each page to see what is happening in the lives of these characters and to see how they will turn their lives around. This is an excellent book that shows how important it is to share wisdom with those who don’t know where to turn. We can all relate to these stories in some way. Her novel is well put together and I look forward to reading more stories from Sharon Tubbs.

Book Review

Paulette Harper does a superb job of sharing a step-by-step guide to becoming completely whole. At some point and time in all of our lives, we may experience setbacks, distractions and various trials. It is during those times that we need to be comforted through the Word of God and empowering words to help us recognize that we can truly come out of whatever we’ve found ourselves getting ensnared in.

Completely Whole provides the reader with sound wisdom to motivate you to experience the healing power of God and pick up what remains to stand firm on God’s Word. I thoroughly enjoyed how Paulette Harper shared scripture and then broke it down to cause the reader to relate to the ways of deliverance.

“Recognize the distractions for what they are and eliminate them immediately.” If we don’t get rid of the distractions in our lives then we will continue to remain stagnate, Harper shares.

Even in relationships, we must let go of past relationships and break off the soul ties if we really want to be free. Harper shares how holding onto the past prohibits us from receiving the new things that God has in store for our lives.

God wants us to become totally dependent upon Him and become completely whole so that we can begin to celebrate the personal and private victories that God has done in and through our lives.

This book is a great read for any person who is struggling with their salvation or someone who wants to really reach a level of deliverance and healing in their personal walk with God. This book will help you draw closer to God and will remind you of how significant you are in the eyes of God.

Wanda, how can Home Again: Stories of Restored Relationships be used for ministry purposes?

Home Again contains many family and relational dynamics. As readers turn the pages, they will connect with real-life characters. After the dilemma is presented, readers will have the opportunity to walk through the healing process with the characters. This can be extremely powerful if the reader’s life mirrors the characters.

For example, in Birthing Pains, I felt Eugeenia’s anguish, having teenaged children. My daughter was also a drama queen and drove me crazy. Through the story, I recognized how I could have handled that era better.

LEAVE A NOTE: Are you struggling about a broken relationship? Let us know how we can lift you up in prayer.

About Wanda B. Campbell

Wanda B. Campbell is an extraordinary and talented writer who brings creativity, a new sense of hope, and restoration through the healing power of God to the Kingdom, by way of Christian fiction. She uses real life everyday issues to exhort, motivate, and give comfort.

Currently, Wanda has three published novels: First Sunday in October, Illusions and Right Package, Wrong Baggage. Her fourth novel, Silver Lining is scheduled for August 2011. She is also the founder of Micah 6:8 Books, LLC.

About The Book

Home Again is a compelling journey into the relationships that matter most: family, friends and self. Each story is founded on natural love, but will require the Father’s love to heal the brokenness.

Travel with husbands and wives, brothers, sisters, friends and families as they maneuver through life’s hurts and betrayals while leaning on a power greater than themselves.

Home Again is filled with heartfelt stories of family issues with real-life characters that expose us to a family problem that requires forgiveness and redemption. Each story has you at the edge of your chair anticipating to see the outcome of the story. In Birthing Pains, it was interesting to see how a teen could totally be unaware of her present condition. The family members were so disconnected from one another that it took those birthing pains to bring restoration (Kudos to Tyora Moody for her first published work). Wanda Campbell kept my mouth open and in suspense as she told the story of how two twin sisters shared the same man. The betrayal was devastating and it caused years of bitterness, but forgiveness and redemption created an opportunity to bring restoration for them. Finding out that your momma really isn’t your momma is hard pill to swallow, but Tasha was confronted with this same issue in Tavares Carney’s story. Each story was so real and they will each keep you turning the pages to see how each family issue was going to be restored. This is an excellent anthology compiled by Wanda Campbell and I’m hoping that all of these stories will become entire books one day real soon. Look to hear more great things about the authors of Home Again.

About the Book

For five years, Pamela Roberts, has balanced the demands of being a single mother and a devoted Christian. She unselfishly places the needs of her son, Matthew, above her own. Although she tries to convince everyone that she’s happy with Jesus alone, Matthew handpicks the perfect present for her—a husband. Everything about the man her son chooses is perfect, except for his past.

Micah Stevenson is excited when he learns the son of the woman he has been praying about wants him to join their family permanently. Believing Pamela Roberts is his soul mate sent from God, Micah pursues her. Once he is certain of her love for him, Micah reveals his dark history, shaking the foundation of the once loving and stable relationship. Trust is broken as judgments and prejudices threaten to deny the couple’s destiny.

Will the man he used to be prevent Pamela from loving Micah for the man he is now?

When Christian talk show host Serenity Williams’ fiancé calls off their wedding because he can’t deal with her popularity, she determines that she will never fall in love with another pride-filled, ego-driven pastor. Then, Serenity’s producer asks her to interview the charismatic Pastor Phillip McKnight, who has recently gone through a divorce. Serenity feels that this is her chance to expose the arrogance of ego-filled pastors to the world. But Pastor Phillip is broken and humbled from his experiences, and the surprising humility of this man causes Serenity to want to un-break his heart. However, Serenity will need the Lord to fix her heart and change her mind about male preachers before she and Phillip can become all they were meant to be to each other.

The Book Review will be available by Friday. I have 50 more pages to complete and I want to complete it before the review is done. I must say that I have anticipated this book because I enjoyed reading the first book in the series, Yesterday’s Promise. I couldn’t wait until this book was released and I am thoroughly enjoying the writing style of Vanessa Miller.

You will find that Serenity has a hard time love and trust after being hurt so deeply by a preacher who she loved so deeply. Her fiance couldn’t handle the magnitude of Serenity’s ministry so he walked out of her life. Vanessa Miller shows the real inside scoop of what goes on between Pastors and their wives (fiance). Serenity then closes her heart and vows to never fall in love with a preacher until Phillip McKnight walks into her life. A pastor who has been broken and who understands now the importance of walking in humility and loving a wife the way Christ loves the church. The connection is made, but the two of them face obstacles, disagreements and outside forces to keep them apart. All the while God is working on the two of them. An excellent read that is filled with love and quite a few drama twists.

Serenity learns a valuable lesson of forgiveness and quickly recognizes that holding old grudges will eventually build a wall of isolation around you from others. This isolation wall was on the way of costing her a love experience.

After an encounter with a former fan of her talk show, she learns that ministry truly involves interacting with God’s people. A stand-off approach to protect from being hurt again can not only hurt you, but it can be offensive to others. Serenity learns this the hard way, but it truly opened her eyes.

Kudos to Vanessa Miller for another job well done in writing a story to share with those women in ministry. I am looking forward to the third book. BUY BOTH BOOKS IN THE SERIES TODAY!

Devotional Excerpt taken from Ch. 9
of Who Speaks To Your Heart?

God reveals through his living Word that what matters most to us should be the same things that matter most to him. It’s no coincidence that love is the greatest commandment. It trumps all else in God’s eyes. When we love with our whole heart, we are modeling the example set by Jesus, whose life and death were built on this foundation. Let’s be honest today – this isn’t as easy as it sounds. Sometimes we fail to meet this standard because achieving it and maintaining it leaves us feeling like doormats. We feel weak and used rather than empowered and giving.

Add to the struggle of building solid, loving relationships the challenges you may have faced recently in trying to pursue your purpose. Our nation’s ailing economy, disappearing jobs, home foreclosures and personal tragedies have left people everywhere anxious. If you haven’t faced losses, you may be stressed in trying to dodge them.

I’ll encourage you during seasons of turmoil to fight even harder to stay focused on whose you are and on who you desire to be. This is the perfect time to decide, if you haven’t done so already, to make your relationship with God the top priority in your life. Decide to develop a friendship with him, because the bonds of love and trust between friends breed a sense of security that can’t be purchased or manufactured.

What matters most in all we do is finding out who Christ is calling us to be in the time we have allotted to grace the planet. Hours can’t be put on pause and the days of our lives can’t be refunded. It’s important to stop procrastinating and apply God’s wisdom to every facet of your life.

As you learn about and experience God’s love, you become more loving. The more love you share, the more we find ourselves fulfilled. This sense of satisfaction won’t necessarily come in the form of the glitz the world adores, but will instead reveal itself through the pure intentions and unassuming wisdom that only God can provide.

About the Book

When Trina Michaels steps off the plane after her two-year missions trip in Africa, she realizes that other than longing to see her mother and her best friend, her heart aches to fly back to the place that now feels more like home than anywhere she’s… ever lived. And to the man who’s stolen her heart.

Her dream of a quick return to Mozambique fades within hours when Trina discovers that her mother has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Trina is forced to go back to her job as a publicist to cover her mother’s health costs.

She’s assigned a damage control client, Bishop Walker, a megachurch pastor accused of covering up a church sex scandal within his church involving the molestation of young boys. Representing him could cost Trina her most valued friendship, the love of her life, and her soul.

Sherri Lewis does it again with providing a story that deals with a sensitive topic of homosexuality and sexual molestation happing in the church. In her previous book, My Soul Cries out we are exposed to Monica and Kevin’s ordeal with struggling with homosexuality and molestation was covered up for so long in Kevin’s life. However, a healing process began in book one and we see that Kevin is delivered and he and Monica are expecting a child. There is nothing too hard for God!

When Monica’s best friend, Trina returns from her missions trip in Africa they are some obstacles that she must face. Her mother’s terminal illness, however does not shake her faith in God because she had already seen miracles take place in Africa and she wasn’t about to doubt God.

When Trina has to represent Bishop Walker in his covering up of sexual molestation taking place right in his church, it could cost her a valued friendship with Monica, her new love and her reputation. Trina, who wasn’t considering marriage at first is somehow persuaded when her new love from Africa.

Sherri Lewis does another excellent job of sharing such a heartfelt story. I admire what I have read from Sherri Lewis thus far because I notice that she takes time to share her stories and you can tell that she’s done research concerning the topics discussed in her books. Well done!
